Jak Butler

Postdoctoral Researcher

Jak is all about data, and the breadth of data coming out of genetics projects nowadays suits him perfectly. Jak cut his teeth at UTAS examining various aspects of the iconic Australian eucalypts, utilizing fancy genomic resources to answer questions regarding gene family divergence, disease resistance, genomic architecture and environmental adaptation. Having completed his PhD and a post-doc focusing on the genomics of eucalypts, he is now applying his knowledge of bioinformatics to the study of flowering time in various legume species. When not wrangling with uncooperative code, Jak plays a mean bit of piano and makes an adequate chili.

The Green Fuse research group acknowledges the Australian Aboriginal peoples as the first inhabitants of lutruwita (Tasmania) and the traditional custodians of the lands on which we conduct our research. We pay our respects to elders past and present.
